Clay Arts Vegas to host CCSD Feats of Clay
Las Vegas, Nevada (4/24/12) -- Teams from Foothill,
Green Valley, Canyon Springs, Las and Chaparral High Schools in Clark County
School District will compete in the Feats of Clay competition at Clay Arts
Vegas, 1511 S. Main St, Las Vegas, NV 89104 on Friday, May 4, 2012 from 5:00 –
6:30 p.m. Doors open to the public
at 4:30 p.m. as part of First Friday in the Arts District.
Clark County School District has participated in
Feats of Clay, which is held across the country, for the last several
years. Students’ skill, creativity
and team work are tested as they compete, using traditional and non-traditional
techniques (using head, knees, etc.), to win in timed events such as No Hands
Throwing, Cylinder Stacking, Coil Building, Pinch Pot with Feet, Mug-a-thon,
and House of Cards. Concurrently
student work will be displayed in the Victor F Keen Gallery at Clay Arts Vegas.
Clay Arts Vegas was started in 2011 as a
collaboration amongst artists living and working in the Las Vegas Area to
celebrate clay and other three dimensional art. Their studio, gallery, shop, and educational space are all
located in the Arts District of Las Vegas. The mission of Clay Arts Vegas is the advancement of
ceramics and of the ceramic community in the Arts District and burgeoning arts
culture in Las Vegas.
